Definition of sentence


a sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense.

1.Assertive sentence

a sentence that makes a statement is called an assertive sentence.

example- 

 a. the Taj mahal is in Agra.

                
b. iron is a useful metal.

                
 c. ram is not singing.

                 
d. Rohit does not run.

                
 e. I saw a flock of sheep.


 2.Interrogative sentence

a sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.

example-  
 a. how are you?

                 
 b. what is your name?

                 
 c. did the girl dance?

                 
 d.do you sing a song?

                 
 e.do you go to school?


  3.Imperative sentence

a sentence that has some command, request, advice, or suggestion is called an imperative sentence. 

example- 
 a. don't make a noise.

               
  b. open the door.

                
 c. always be polite.

                 
 d. never tell a lie.

                 
 e. you must take medicine on time.


 4.Exclamatory sentence

a sentence that expresses a strong feeling is called an exclamatory sentence.

     example-   

a. what a sweet apple it is!

                      
 b. bravo! did it well.

                       
c. how cold the night is!

                     
  d. fie! go to hell.
                                
                      
 e. hush! keep silent.

5.Optative sentence

a sentence that expresses a wish or prayer is called an optative sentence.

  example-  

 a. may you live long!

                    
b. may god help you!

                   
 c. may god bless you! 

d. may you be happy!       
          

 e. heartiest congratulation on your success.
