A verb is a word that shows an action, state, or possession.
Example-
Sita reads a book.
I am a doctor.
Gopi is ill.
ram has a car.
Type of verb
Stative vs dynamic verb
1.stative verb
the verb that shows a state or possession.
Example-
I am a teacher
Gopi is ill.
I like chocolates.
I have a car.
I love this novel
2.Dynamic verb
The verb which shows a physical action is called dynamic or action verb.
Example-
I play cricket.
She is cooking.
He writes a letter.
My father works in the mnc company.
they are working in the field.
Main vs helping verb
1.Main/principal/ordinary/lexical verb
The verb which is of the main importance in the sentence is called the main verb.
Example-
I read.
Ram is playing.
Ram is ill.
They were absent.
My father takes a tea.
2.Helping /auxiliary verb
The verb which helps the main verb to form a tense, voice, or mood is called a helping verb.
Example-
I am reading.
I was reading.
I shall/will read.
A mango is eaten by the ram.
It may rain today.
They should go.
There are 28 auxiliaries (helping) verbs-
primary auxiliaries
