Definition of conjunction

A conjunction is a word that joins two words or two sentences.

For example-

Geeta and Meena are sisters.

He is poor but he is honest.

work hard otherwise, you will fail.

above sentence and, but, otherwise are conjunction they are joining two words or sentences. 


                  Types of conjunction 

1.Coordinating conjunction

A single word that joins similar words or phrases in a sentence. 

we will understand this conjunction with a trick by using the acronym of FANBOYS

F - (for)-explain reason or purpose

A-( and)-add one thing to another 

N-(nor)-used to present negative idea

B-(but)-indicate the opposite of an event 

O-(or)-to represent  choice

Y-(yet)-something that we expected, it has happened or has not happened. we usually keep the last of a sentence

S-(so)-indicate the result


for example-


I paid five thousand money for this suit.

I bought books and notebooks.

neither Mohan nor I drink.

I want to go to market but I am so tired.

what do you like tea or coffee?

he has not completed his homework yet.

I am tired so I will not attend this party.

a paired conjunction that has a complementary relationship.

neither ram nor shyam has gone there.

neither he nor his brother was present.

whether......or(not)

i don't know whether he is present or not.

he does not know whether his brother come or not.

not only.....but also

he cheated not only his teacher but also his parents.
not only was he rebuked but he was also fined.

no sooner.......than

no sooner did we reach the gate of the school than the bell rang.

scarcely.......when
